Following recent news that emotional support/service horses have been cleared to fly on planes, a mini pony has been spotted on an American Airlines flight from Chicago to Nebraska.
Passengers on board the plane were surprised to spot the service animal, known as Flirty, standing in the aisle during the flight. Many took to social media to share snaps of the surprise passenger.
Service animals can accompany owners who suffer from mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. In the case of Flirty’s owner, who is allergic to dogs and has post-traumatic stress disorder, a mini horse was the best option.

Last month, the US Department of Transportation announced that passengers would be able to take animals onboard American aircrafts as long as they are registered as service animals. Airlines could face fines if they separate owners from their animals. The US Department of Transport told CBS 62: ‘With respect to animal species, we indicated that we would focus our enforcement efforts on ensuring that the most commonly used service animals (dogs, cats, and miniature horses) are accepted for transport’.
It’s likely we’ll be seeing plenty more animals like Flirty taking to the sky in the future!
