US-based Australian eventer Ema Klugman has finished fourth in the Carolina International CCI4*S (13-16 March) with Bronte Beach Syndicate’s mare, Bronte Beach Z (by Verdi TN out of Dalphine, by Chopin).

The combination finished on a score of 45.1, their second-best international-level four-star result to date. They were awarded 35.9 in the dressage for 13th place, before adding 0.4 jumping time penalties and 8.8 cross country time penalties to their final score. No one made time on Derek di Grazia’s CCI4*S course.

Ema, a full-time attorney in Washington D.C., was looking for a safe fitness run with the mare ahead of Kentucky 3DE next month. Ema has had 13-year-old Bronte Beach since the mare was five years old and has brought her up through the levels.

Ema also placed ninth with The Chiraz Syndicate’s 12-year-old grey Holsteiner gelding Chiraz (by Cayado 3 out of Asquetta, by Casall) on 49.8, jumping clear to add just cross country faults to her dressage score with this horse. It was a PB for the combination at international-level four-star.

Jennie Brannigan piloted Tim and Nina Gardner’s FE Lifestyle (by Leo von Faelz out of Berina A, by Brandenburger) to win the CCI4*S on a final score of 40.3. FE Lifestyle was originally owned and trained by Australian Clayton Fredericks until 2017.
