“After a great deal of consideration, we’ve made the decision to postpone the Gold Buckle Campdraft Championship, scheduled for 13–16 May 2026,” announced Willinga Park on Wednesday evening.
“This hasn’t been an easy call. We’ve spent time speaking with campdrafters, industry advisors and members of our community and we understand the level of commitment it takes to be part of an event like this — whether you’re competing or making the trip as a spectator.
“With many of our campdraft community travelling long distances, we want to ensure that when the event runs, it does so at a time that allows as many people as possible to be part of it.”
With rising fuel costs around the country, competitors are being forced to carefully consider long-distance travel for events — not only due to the expense but also fuel availability in some regional areas. With many in the campdrafting community working on the land, the need for fuel to carry out essential farm work is also likely front of mind.
“The Gold Buckle Campdraft Championship is something we’re incredibly proud of, and our focus is on bringing it back when it can be everything it should be for competitors, spectators and the wider campdraft community. The 2025 Ringers Western Gold Buckle Campdraft Championship welcomed more than 200 competitors — many with several horses — from across Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and the local South Coast, along with their families and eventgoers from across the country. Hugh Miles rode Vintage Whiskey to victory, ahead of Pete Comiskey, a former three-time Gold Buckle champion, who finished runner-up with Nashvale Roy Ell Destiny.
