Tayla Desmet and homebred gelding Dark Diamond (Diamond Hit x Glock’s Zonik) were the first Australian combination in action as the FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses got underway in Verden, Germany on Wednesday.
Contesting the First Qualification for Six-Year-Old-Horses, the duo received a mark of 7.6 for the walk, 7.5 for canter and perspective, and 7.3 for trot and submission, for a total score of 74.4% and 33rd place. The result was their best to date in the Preliminary Test for Six-Year-Old Horses, with the combination typically marking better in the Final Test at both of their previous outings at the level.
Tayla and ‘Zack’ will now contest the Small Final for Six-Year-Old Horses, which begins at 11.15pm AEST on Thursday 6 August (3.15pm local time).

Danish Warmblood stallion Faustino G (Blue Hors Farrell x Sezuan) for Betina Jæger was the highest placed combination in the First Qualification for Six-Year-Old-Horses, scoring 9.7 for trot, 9.5 for submission, 9.3 for perspective and canter, and 8.5 for walk, resulting in an impressive total of 92.6%. Faustino G is bred and owned by Helene Geervliet of Stutteri G stud.
Denmark also took second place with mare Dizzy (Hesselhoej Donkey Boy x Blue Hors Zack), ridden by Merita Hagren, scoring 9 for trot, walk and perspective, and 8.8 for canter and submission for a total of 89.2%. Dizzy was bred by Hesselhoej stud and is owned by Helgstrand Dressage.
In third was German-bred stallion Sir Gribaldi (Secret x All Inclusive), ridden by Beatrice Arturi. The Hanoverian received 9 for submission, 8.9 for perspective and canter, 8.7 for walk, and 8.6 for trot. Owned by Gestüt Sprehe, he was bred by ZG Aronis u.Janßen.

Jemma Heran and Zauberfloete 10 in action Thursday
Australia’s representatives in the First Qualification for Five-Year-Old-Horses, Jemma Heran and her own Zauberfloete 10 (Zenon x San Amour I), will also compete on Thursday with the class starting at 3.30pm AEST. Zauberfloete 10 is an Oldenburg mare bred by Gestüt Lewitz.
