Lipizzaner Stud Piber, a stud connected with the famed Spanish Riding School in Vienna, has welcomed its first foal of the season, a filly!
The lovely little foal was born as the first foal coinciding with the 100 year anniversary of the birthplace of one of the most famous horses of the world: the Lipizzaner of the Spanish Riding School Vienna.
On Saturday, January 18th, 2020, the first foal was born at 11:30 pm “The mother Dubovina and the cute tiny Lipizzaner are both doing very well. Since then the mare and her little foal are exploring the world in small walks around the stable,” says stud master Erwin Movia. “The birth was without any problems and we can see what a lively one this one is going to be,” continues the stud master about the filly.
The adorable foal seemed to be in a hurry and was born a few days earlier than expected. Its name is given according to the stud tradition around the age of six months when it leaves the mother.
Like every other year, from January to May around 40 foals are expected at the Piber Lipizzaner Stud. They are dark brown to black when they are born. They turn totally white over a period of six to ten years.
A bunch of the foals will have their first debut in the most beautiful riding hall of the world at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna as part of the summer program “Piber meets Vienna”.
The four to five months old little Lipizzaner foals, together with their mothers, are one the most loved summer highlights for visitors!
