Phil Lever claims World Wetlands Day Grand Prix at Boneo

By Equestrian Life

Sunday at the Homes & Acreage World Wetlands Day Jumping Championships saw plenty of action on the main arena.

The headline class, the Browns Sawdust Grand Prix, was a thrilling event that saw results changing until the very last combination on course. Phillip Lever and Lomachenko (by Lord Pezi) produced a wonderful double clear, completing the jump off in a blistering time of 50.99 to claim the win.

“At only 8 years of age, he’s just stepped up to Grand Prix and he’s jumping out of his skin,” said Phil of the horse, who was bred locally in Balnarring by Michael and Trevor Webster. “This horse is something special!”

Second place went to Amber Fuller and CP Aretino in a time of 55.01 seconds, third went to Olivia Hamood and Knock Out 111 in 55.07 seconds, fourth went to Amber Fuller and Nopal Van Tallaert on 55.32 seconds, and fifth went to Sam Overton and Oaks Cassanova, with the pair rounding out the double clears and with a time of 58.65 seconds. Queenslander Billy Raymont and Black Jack Ice were the fastest with faults, producing a beautiful controlled round in 51.47; an unlucky rail kept them to sixth place.

The JPR Equestrian Mini Prix went to Billy Raymont with Kablesse Kavita, who produced one of three double clears in the quickest time. Second place went to Russell Johnstone and Dondersteen, while Suzie Williams and Commander Nzph finished third. The fourth combination in the jump off, Sarah Duggan and Dublin, had one rail down.

In other classes, the Pryde’s Easifeed Future Stars Championship went to the in-form Phillip Lever, this time with  BP Jedak Du Rouet, while the Wessel Drilling Open Championship went to Kate Beadel and Lily Elmare. The Racing Victoria Off The Track Championship went to Katie Clark and Katelle Grand.
