“Bridget became unwell over the past few days and was admitted to hospital where she remains and is currently stable. Following ongoing medical assessments, she was advised today that she cannot compete,” reads The Australian Equestrian Team’s social media statement.
“Our thoughts are with Bridget as she focuses on her recovery, and we wish her all the very best for a strong and speedy return to health.
“Lisa Martin, Mietta Innes-Irons and Dianne Barnes will now compete in Aachen as individuals, carrying the green and gold with pride.
“Due to the withdrawal and the structure of Para Classifications, Australia will be unable to compete in the Team competition in Aachen. Australia will have the opportunity to qualify a team for LA28 Paralympics Games via the Oceania Paralympic qualification slot in 2027.”
Although team scores at the World Championships are derived from the best three marks, to get a team score there must be atleast one rider from Grades I, II and/or III. Bridget is a Grade II rider, whilst the remaining three team members – Lisa Martin, Mietta Innes-Irons and Diane Barnes – are either Grade IV or V.
While there were Grade I and III riders named on the reserve list, they were non-travelling reserves.
