No future plans for EQUITANA Melbourne as 2027 event cancelled

EQUITANA Melbourne, scheduled to be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds in November 2027, has been cancelled, and at this stage, there are no plans for future EQUITANA Melbourne events.

“For almost three decades, EQUITANA Melbourne has been a place where horse lovers from across Australia came together to learn, compete, shop, connect and celebrate their passion for horses,” said Rod Lockwood, Managing Director of EQUITANA Melbourne, via a statement on Thursday.

“Since the first event in 1997, we have been privileged to witness countless friendships formed, careers launched, champions celebrated and memories created.

“Unfortunately, like many major events, EQUITANA has faced increasing financial challenges in recent years. The cost of staging an event of this scale has risen dramatically, while the growing costs of travel, accommodation and participation have made it increasingly difficult for businesses and visitors alike to attend.

“Following the 2024 event, we undertook an extensive review of every aspect of EQUITANA. We explored alternative venues and event formats, but ultimately we are unable to find a sustainable path forward that would allow us to deliver the event the Australian equine community deserves.

“While this chapter is coming to an end, what EQUITANA has represented remains unchanged. The Australian horse industry is one of the most passionate, resilient and respected in the world, and we have been honoured to play a small role in bringing that community together.

“To everyone who attended the event, purchased a ticket, competed, volunteered, supported exhibitors, shared their knowledge, cheered from the sidelines or simply made EQUITANA part of their calendar, thank you!

“Your enthusiasm, loyalty and support helped make EQUITANA Melbourne far more than an event. You made it a community.

“We leave with many wonderful memories, immense gratitude, and pride in what we achieved together over nearly 30 years.

“While EQUITANA Melbourne may be ending, the friendships, knowledge and passion it fostered will continue to strengthen the Australian horse community for years to come.

“From our family to yours, thank you for being part of the EQUITANA journey.”
