“No horse will ever remain in my memory more than this wonderful American Mustang,” said Monty Roberts on Thursday. “He loved virtually everyone and all the horse world loved him.

“I am now in my 90s and I’m it’s sure it won’t be long until I am with him again. All who knew him will agree he should be in everyone’s memory. I love you Shy Boy and I am sure I will see you soon.”

Many horse lovers will be familiar with Roberts’ 1998 book Shy Boy, which details the horseman’s experiences in the high desert of Nevada where he used his famed ‘join-up’ method to tame a wild Mustang in the open. The famous partnership with Shy Boy began on the night of March 30, 1997, and remarkably extended nearly 30 years.

Thought to be born in 1993, Shy Boy reached the grand age of 33 years. Rest in peace, Shy Boy.
