While there were many exciting performances at the All England Dressage Festival at Hickstead – not least Australia’s own Jayden Brown in the CDI3* classes – one that turned heads was six-year-old mare Quinn G, ridden by Carl Hester in the young horse classes.

In the FEI Preliminary Dressage Test for 6YO Horses, Carl and Quinn G scored 97%, receiving 10s for the trot, canter and perspective, 9 for the walk, and 9.5 for submission.

In the second test, the British Dressage Young Horse 6YO, they scored a whopping 98.4, with 10s for the walk, canter and general impression (with the directive stating “potential as dressage horse and standard of training”), 9.8 for the trot, and 9.4 for the way of going (with the directive stating “way of going according to the scales of training, including the ability to lengthen and shorten the pace.”)

“Quinn G what can I say; the feeling was just wonderful as she achieved 98.4% in the six year old class. A genuine and sincere horse with so much talent for the coming years and just like with Fame and Vogue, a privilege to ride this weekend. Thank you, Fiona Bigwood, for allowing me to ride this lovely mare,” said Carl via social media following the event.

Quinn G is a chestnut Danish Warmblood mare by Quaterhit (who is by Quarterback stallion Quatergold, out of a Sandro Hit mare) out of Fassbinder (Fystin Laura).

Quinn G won the 5YO Championship at the 2023 FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses with Denmark’s Betina Jæger in the saddle, scoring 88.2 in the Preliminary test and 94.8 in the final. She was owned by Helgstrand Dressage at the time but was sold to great Britain and joined Fiona Bigwood’s stable at the end of 2023.

A top rider in her own right, Fiona was part of Great Britain’s silver medal winning team at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The 2024 FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses takes place from 4-8 September in Ermelo, the Netherlands and Quinn could once again be one to watch. This years’ dates have been pushed back due to the Olympics, however, the Championships now clash with the German Young Horse Championships, aka the Bundeschampionate, in Warendorf.
