Australian Boyd Exell has placed second in the CAIO4* dressage for four-in-hand drivers (‘Prize of Martello Immobilienmanagement GmbH & Co. KG’), at CHIO Aachen in Germany.

Boyd and his team of four horses – Celviro, Checkmate, Hero and Ivor – scored 38.92 to finish a close second behind American Chester Webber on 38.85 in the 25-strong field.

The competition also counts as the first rating competition of the combined driving event for team (‘Boehringer Ingelheim Nations Cup’) and individuals (‘Prize of Family Richard Talbot’). Boyd’s Australian teammate, Tor Van Den Berge, finished in 11th place in the dressage on a score of 54.04 with his team of horses – Carbery Estate Cato, Carbery Estate Chino, Indiana and Kerosine.

Combining the scores of the two Aussie drivers, Australia sits in second place from eight teams for the Nations Cup after the first leg of competition. Congratulations to both Boyd and Tor!

Tomorrow (Friday, 30 June) four-in-hand drivers will contest the ‘Prize of Fa. Horsch, Der Entsorger’, a “Top Score” obstacle (cones) driving competition that stands alone from the combined event.

Drivers then complete the marathon phase (‘Prize of Schwartz Group’) of the combined driving on Saturday, followed by the final obstacles (cones) phase (‘Prize of Event Rent GmbH’) on Sunday.

Full results and draws can be found here.
