Launched in 2016, the Barastoc Junior Squad aims to teach, inspire and guide young equine enthusiasts. The squad program assists young riders in gaining the experience needed to support a commercial sponsorship in adulthood, if it is desired or needed, as well as provide a solid understanding of feeding their horses. Each year Barastoc welcomes 20-30 new young riders to be part of the team.
Here, we catch up with current Barastoc Junior Squad member Lilly Mace…
I’m 18 years old and have been riding for 15 years. My preferred disciplines are showjumping and eventing. I have two main horses:
Woodsden Titanium (Winnie): He is by KA Karoona Classic out of a Percheron x Standardbred mare. I have had him for three years.
Woodsden Regal Classic (Hugo): He is also by KA Karoona Classic out of a Warmblood mare. I have had him for two years.
Big goals
I am working on moving up to 1.30m showjumping and CCI2* eventing with Winnie, and I would like to have Hugo at CCN1* eventing and 1.20m showjumping within the next year. I would also love to compete at Melbourne International 3DE next year.
Favourite memories
In 2025 I won the Grade 1 at the Tasmanian Pony Club State Horse Trials, one of Tassie’s most prestigious events. We led from start to finish — I was so proud of Winnie and it really showed how much our hard work was paying off.
Aspirational riders
I look up to my dad. He is such a hard worker and an amazing person in general.
Dream horse
If I could ride any horse past or present, I would always choose my heart horse Winnie over any Olympian or World Cup horse!

There have been many perks to being a part of the squad, but the free monthly Zoom seminars have been super interesting, and I have learnt lots from them. I love Barastoc Complete Performer for both Winnie and Hugo.
