Launched in 2016, the Barastoc Junior Squad aims to teach, inspire and guide young equine enthusiasts. The squad program assists young riders in gaining the experience needed to support a commercial sponsorship in adulthood, if it is desired or needed, as well as provide a solid understanding of feeding their horses. Each year Barastoc welcomes 20-30 new young riders to be part of the team.

Here, we catch up with current Barastoc Junior Squad member Kate Partridge…

I’m 18 years old and have been riding since before I could walk! I mostly compete in showjumping with my 15-year-old off the track Thoroughbred mare, SP Flagraiser (Flaggy).

Favourite memories

My favourite memory with Flaggy is when we competed in the Pony Club showjumping at Sydney Royal Easter Show. It was a massive turning point for us and it was such an exciting experience.

Big goals

My goals are to continue to learn and grow with Flaggy. Also I want to keep sharing my knowledge with the younger generation both outside and inside of Pony Club.

Aspirational riders

The people I look up to most are my Mum for her unconditional love and unwavering support throughout my journey both on and off the horse, and the Gostelow and the Hoy families for their pure determination and willingness to share their love of the sport to the up and coming generation of showjumpers.

Supported by Barastoc

The thing I love most about being a part of the Barastoc Junior Squad is the supportive community but also the opportunity to learn from professionals about their stories and their tips and tricks.

Flaggy absolutely loves Barastoc Supreme — it keeps her energised and at her best for competition.
