Australian vaulter Ginger Kennett contested the final class of the Prize of Sparkasse at CHIO Aachen on Saturday, placing 16th in the CVIO4* Female Free Test to Music.
Teamed with horse Goldjunge and lunger Jacqueline Schönteich of Germany, Ginger produced a terrific test to score 7.372.
The 21-year-old’s routine was performed to the Julia Stone cover of ‘Beds Are Burning’.
“The song was written 33 years ago about indigenous land rights in Australia and unfortunately the meaning and lyrics of the song are very relevant today,” she explains. “My theme is a tribute to the dual meaning of ‘beds are burning’, linking the bush fire crisis and the way First Nations people have used fire to care for the land for thousands of years.
“It depicts the courage and resilience in the aftermath of the devastating fires, and the perseverance to overcome the destruction and trauma in the fragility of our lives. This was a very personal and close to home experience for me that I wanted to share.”
Ginger placed 15th overall in the Prize of Sparkasse, with Saturday’s test added to the Compulsory (6.666) and Technical (6.576) tests completed on Friday. Ginger’s overall average was 6.997.
With her goal of competing at CHIO Aachen ticked off, Ginger is now looking ahead to the 2024 FEI Vaulting World Championship for Seniors in Bern, Switzerland [16-21 July] where she will again compete with Goldjunge and Jacqueline Schönteich.
