Emily King, the 22-year-old British eventer, has successfully funded the money through donations to enable her to purchase her ride “Hobby” — aka Langford Take the Biscuit.
The eventer was after 40,000 pounds before May 31s, with this being successfully completed with the generosity of friends, family and fans donating to a crowdfunding campaign. 556 donators supplied various amounts, while two major private investors ultimately got her over the 40,000 pound mark. Emily said she was “truly overwhelmed with everyone’s outstanding generosity”.
Emily also stated in a Facebook post that 100% of Hobby’s future winnings will go to charity — including World Horse Welfare of which she is a patron.
Emily launched the campaign earlier this month after Hobby’s owner had to put him up for sale due to relocating. Emily believed the horse is very talented and could be her “horse of a lifetime” — hence the effort to secure Hobby as her future competition horse.

Wow, I can’t quite believe I’m writing this, we have some pretty amazing news… I’ve just had two phone calls from private investors who’ve agreed to put forward the remaining amount towards Hobby’s crowdfunding campaign! Meaning the £40,000 sum required has been met before May 31st, and WE’VE SECURED HOBBY FOR ME TO RIDE!!!
I really cannot believe it. I’m truly overwhelmed with everyone’s outstanding generosity, I feel so lucky and completely humbled to have been supported by so many.
I would like to say a huge, huuuge thank you to each and every one of the 556 donators who kindly took time out of their day to help me secure the ride on this lovely young horse. You’re a true credit and testimony to our amazing sport. You are the ones who keep our sport alive with so much enthusiasm… you drive us riders to work and train as hard as possible, to win medals and make our country proud. Without you, we are nothing.

You will then each receive a welcome pack which will include Hobby’s Autumn event plan (where you can meet him), the dates of course walks and the dates of yard visits. Plus regular newsletters and updates throughout the years ahead.
The minimum duration of the JustGiving page is 30 days. So I’m unable to close it right away. Any extra donations will go towards his running costs.
