Denman Horse Trials took place from 6-7 July in NSW, with Olivia ‘Golly’ Barton taking out the CCN1* class with six-year-old Warmblood Dyrring Park Corileck.
Ninth after the dressage on a score of 34.4, the pair were clear of jumping and time penalties and rocketed up the leaderboard to claim the win. Lydia Proctor finished a close second on 35.4 with Sandhills Style, Brooke Chapman was third with Another Foxy Lady, and in fourth place was Sandi Palmer with her Paint/Quarter Horse Ql Gunsmokin Spinifex (who you can read more about in the July issue of Equestrian Life here.)
“Dyrring Park Corileck is owned by Janet Mudge,” explains Golly. “She has been campaigning at one-star level since the start of the year and is a very talented mare with a lot of potential. It’s so nice to have local events like Denman to keep progressing the young horses whilst the higher-level horses are having a mid-season break.
“I think events like Denman are also great for exposing the next generation of riders to different atmospheres and terrain and to be able to compete in such a great environment is also so important in encouraging riders to keep coming back!”

This weekend coming will be a change of pace for Olivia. Short-listed for the Australian Olympic eventing team (and therefore a reserve) with her five-star horse Hollyander HG, Golly is flying out to Europe with the mare to take part in the team training camp.
Travelling alongside the pair will be Olympic team members Shane Rose and Virgil, and the travelling reserves (first reserves) Shenae Lowings and Bold Venture. All three Australian-based combinations will join the overseas-based team members as they prepare for the Games later this month.
“Holly and I are flying out on Saturday afternoon to participate in the Games training camp as reserves for the Olympics. I think it will be a great experience to be a part of and I’m excited to be included!”
