Interschool riders put their best hoof forward at Werribee
The VEIS Dressage and Showjumping Grand Finals took place over the weekend, with young riders making the trip from all over Victoria – including as far east as Lakes Entrance and as far north as the border town of Cobram!
The four-part series, which began in February, had its fourth and final round in relatively pleasant conditions at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre, with the Showjumping Grand Final held Saturday and the Dressage Grand Final held Sunday.
Champions were crowned across the grades for the Grand Final in both disciplines, and VEIS Series Champions were also named from combined results over the four events.
Dressage Grand Final results:
Dressage riders of all ages competed across seven levels from Preparatory to Small Tour, with Champions crowned across the grades. Preliminary and Novice levels were divided into Senior, Intermediate and Primary age classes.
Felicity Sutherland of Braemar College was named the overall Small Tour Champion with Estee, while the Advanced Championship went to Rosemary Heagney and Redgum James 007 for Kardinia International College. The Medium Championship went to Mia Heinrich and Welfs Applause for Tintern Grammar, and Zoe Warner with Mister Moby were Elementary Champions for Toorak College.

Posie Sutherland (left) was the Reserve Elementary Champion on the weekend, however she and Cherishwood Dream On were the overall Elementary Series Champions following the completion of the four-event VEIS series. Pip Crawford was Novice Senior Champion with Spyderman SW for Geelong Grammar School, while the Novice Intermediate Championship went to Grovedale College’s Morgan Cockerell and Monteith Brunton, and the Novice Primary Championship was won by Amelia Maree and Sunny Morning R for Pleasant Street Primary School.
In the Preliminary classes, Hanna Fletcher and Brookside Denzel were Senior Champions for Castlemaine Secondary College, Olivia Logan and Prize Park King Arthur won the Intermediate Championship for Salesian College, and Olivia Roberts of Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar was named Primary Champion with Chapel House Gwilym.
Lucinda Cooper and KRP Bonanza of St Mary MacKillop Primary School in Bannockburn were named Preparatory Champions.
Braemar College took out the Dressage Team Award, finishing one point ahead of Toorak College. Congratulations to all!

Showjumping Grand Final results:
Showjumping riders of all ages competed across seven levels from Freshmans to Stars, with Champions crowned across the grades. Freshman level was divided into Primary and Secondary classes.
The Stars Level Champion was Molly Lawrence riding Carabel P for Toorak College, while the Advanced Level Champion was fellow Toorak College student Zara Adnams riding Dingmac Disco King.
The Intermediate Level Champion was Holly Grant riding RBH Mr Image for Ivanhoe Grammar School; the Progressive Level Champion was Eltham College’s Abigail Zammit and Imperial Rose; and the Improvers Level Champion was Gracie Gartung riding Blackwood Bo Peep for Sale Catholic College. The Encourage Level Champion was Olivia Anderton and Glenmore Wyn for Edinburgh College.
The Primary Freshman Level Champion was awarded to Lachy Black with Lakevale Tyson for Gippsland Grammar, with Lachy also claiming the Reserve title on Mobile App! The Secondary Freshman Level Champion was Jasmine Coady and Jacko for Bacchus Marsh Grammar.
Toorak College took out the Showjumping Team Award.

Overall VIES Series results
Overall Champions were also crowned across the four-leg VEIS series at all levels in both dressage and showjumping. All Champions were thrilled to walk away with beautiful RB Sellars woollen rugs, which are no doubt now coming in handy right as this cold snap moves across the state!

Toorak College were named Showjumping Champions ahead of Salesian College, while Kardinia International College were crowned Dressage Champions with Braemar College the runners up.
