The dressage phase of the Longines FEI Eventing European Championships is complete, with Team Germany in the lead heading into the Cross Country phase. With a combined score of 68.90, the Germans hold a commanding lead over second placed Great Britain on 85.70 and Belgium on 90.90.
Germany’s Michael Jung also holds the lead in the individual standings, having scored 20.90 riding the 11 year old Contendro gelding fischerChipmunk FRH. Defending champion Ingrid Klimke (GER) is currently in second place on 22.2 penalties with her long term partner, 15 year old SAP Hale Bob. Great Britain’s Laura Collett, who held the lead after the first day of dressage, is in third place riding London 52 at the completion of the dressage phase.
With attention now focused on the Cross-Country phase, riders have spoken positively about the re-routed Mike Everingham Smith designed track. British rider Oliver Townend commented “It’s beautifully designed and built. I’m a fan of Mike Etherington Smith’s courses. There are no blind questions. If you’re on your line and you and your horse are focused on the job, it should ride well.”
Michael Jung has also spoken positively about the track: “It’s a very fair course, to be in the time you have to be fast, you have to take a little bit of a risk, and as faster as you go, as easier you can have somewhere a little mistake.”
The Cross Country Course gets underway at 10.00 CEST.
