Mary Hanna and Ivanhoe (by Desperado) enjoyed further success at Willinga Park on Saturday, scoring 73.925% to win the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle. The pair were a unanimous first with all five judges, and will now look ahead to their next international venture: a trip to Europe to contest the FEI Dressage World Cup Final in Basel, Switzerland.
Second place in the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle went to Jodie Dunstan and her own Hollands Bend Highlander (by His Highness), with this combination scoring 68.705%. In third was Justine Greer and her own Fonzie II (by Firestone) on 67.570%. Breanna Tillitzki placed fourth riding BZ Rafael (by Regardez Moi) on 67.455%, while Rozzie Ryan was fifth with Bronze Boy R (by Byalee Briar) on 66.945%.
The CDI-U25 Grand Prix saw a win to Hannah Rockwell and her own Baumanns Diorella, a mare by Dankeschon. The pair scored 65.214%. In second place was Maddison Vallender riding the Regardez Moi gelding Ronan R on 64.359%, while Bridgette Dalmau and Bon Jovi MH (by Bonifatius) – Friday’s CDI-U25 Inter II winners – placed third on 62.863%.
The CDI1* Intermediate I saw Celeste Amezdroz claim the win aboard SF Austin (by Anamour) on 66.569%. Second place went to Katina Smith and her chestnut gelding Bangalow Creek Chilli Pepper on 64.461%, while Sally Rizzuto as third on 63.039% with Quarterland (by Quarterback).


Kilimanjaro continues to impress
The CDI-Y Individual Test saw another impressive win to Jessica Dertell with the KWPN stallion Kilimanjaro (by Bordeaux). This combination scored 71.471% to back up their Team Test win. In second was Tia Rose Mckenzie on 68.725% riding Franzisco RW (by Franziskus), while Ella Jacobs placed a close third with the Hanoverian mare Kalahari (by Kaiserkult) on 67.794%.
Maddison Vallender continued her run of success, winning the CDI-J Individual Test with her German-bred mare Rubinell (Blue Hors Rominov). This combination scored 70.98%. In second was Tia Rose Mckenzie with Phenomenon (by Franz Ferdinand); this combination has also had a great competition, and they were again a close second here on 69.51%. Third place went to Shiva Wiedemann riding Beverly Wiedemann’s mare Hollands Bend Regalite (by Royal Classic) on 67.745%.
Abby Weel continued her success in Dressage by the Sea’s inaugural CDI-P Pony classes, winning the Individual Test with imported gelding Reitlands Obama (by High Flows Oxford) on 72.658%. Tess Baker placed second with Hilkens No Kidding (by Nemax) on 63.333%, while Sophia Coombes was third with Bamborough Jonas (by Thistledown Wicked) on 61.892%.
Saturday also saw the CDI Children’s classes get underway with the CDI-Ch Preliminary Test. Milla Greenaway scored an impressive 78.875% aboard her own SPB Robert Redford (by Movie Star) to win the test, ahead of Isla Oxley and Enbarr (by Heathmont Echo) on 77.6255, and Elouise Grills in third with her mare Moonlight Sonata (by Hamere Tabriz).


A successful event for Serena Ireland
The CDN Grand Prix Freestyle was won by Serena Ireland riding her own Royalty R (by Regardez Moi) on a score of 67.805%. Close behind them was Jayden Brown with Kate Kyros’ stallion Chemistry (by Connaisseur) on 67.395%; this combination earlier won the CDN Inter II and Grand Prix tests. Third in the Freestyle as Queensland’s Lisel Dingley and Carousel Oasis (by Meilland Troubadour), a Warmblood x Welsh D whom she bred and trained herself; the pair scored 64.275%.
Serena Ireland also won the Advanced Freestyle on Saturday riding Jennifer Rapson’s Friesian Tjibbe B (by Norbert 444), scoring 70.442%. Second place went to Pernille Hogg and her own Buenos Aires (by Everdale) on 67.242%, while Bianca Veneziano of Victoria was third riding Sharon Fox-Slater’s Sir Wolkentanz (by Sir Donnerhall) on 66.7%.


Winning day for the McKinnons
David McKinnon enjoyed a win in the Medium Tour with Hollands Bend Rococo, scoring 68.919% to claim the CDN Intermediate B. Matthew Lord and Remi Vigneron (by Viscount) were second on 66.982%, while Victoria Luxford and her own Revelwood Animation (by Ampere) were third on 66.351%.
Fourth place in the Inter B went to the four-star eventer Wimborne Constable (by Contenda), ridden by Cathryn Herbert with a score of 62.928%. Cathryn has won at four-star level with this stallion, and it’s an amazing achievement to see them competing with success at Medium Tour level dressage. Wimborne Constable is owned by Kylie Ewart and was previously evented by Heath Ryan – just like Bronze Boy R, who is competing in the CDI3* classes with Rozzie Ryan.
The first of the Elementary classes also took place on Saturday, with Robbie McKinnon claiming the 3.1 on Stephanie McDonald’s Divine 18 (by Devonport). This combination scored an impressive 73.429%. Also with an impressive score in second place was Nicole Tough with her own mare Everdeen (by Escolar) on 72.857%. Gary Lung placed third on 70.929% riding Kate Wescombe’s Friesian stallion Durk Fan Oostenburg (by Alwin 469).
Young stars in action
Saturday saw the first round of the young horse classes take place, with the following winners crowned:
7 Year Old Young Horse (First Round): Brett Parbery and Cooramin Despacito (by De Niro, bred by Heather Cooramin), 76.334%
6-Year Old Young Horses (First Round): Alexandra Vodermair and Exact (by Esacmillo, bred by Thorsten Hogrefe), 85.6%
5-Year Old Young Horses (First Round): Rachael Clarke and Tarcoola Secret Stash (by Secret, bred by Rachael Clarke), 82.7%
4-Year Old Young Horses (First Round): Matthew Lord and Remi Braveheart (by Bon Couer, bred by Cheryl O’Brien), 85%
